Business name numerology: a review layer, not a strategy
Which numbers the tradition associates with which kinds of business, why Chaldean is used here, and why numerology should be the last filter over a shortlist rather than the first source of names.
Numerology has a real place in naming a business, and it is a narrow one: as a review layer over names that already work. Used first, it produces brands nobody can spell.
What the numbers are read for
Business numerology asks what a name is suited to selling rather than who it is. 5 (Mercury) is the classical trading number — sales, distribution, negotiation. 6 (Venus) suits anything the customer experiences: hospitality, wellness, design, food. 3 (Jupiter) suits anything that grows by being talked about. 8 (Saturn) suits capital-heavy business at scale and is traditionally read as heavy for a young venture.
These are associations, not forecasts. The reason to know them is to have a target before you start testing names, rather than rationalising whichever number your favourite happens to land on.
Why Chaldean here and Pythagorean elsewhere
Business numerology conventionally uses the Chaldean values, which assign letters by sound and have no letter worth 9. Personal numerology conventionally uses Pythagorean. This site follows both conventions and always says which is which — the business checker shows the two side by side, because they frequently disagree and hiding that would be the dishonest part.
The order that works
Generate names on the things that actually determine whether a brand works: what it means, whether people can say it, whether it survives being said over a phone, whether the domain and the trademark are available, and what it means in the other languages your customers speak.
Then run the shortlist through the number. If two candidates are equal on everything else and one lands on a number that suits the business, that is a perfectly reasonable tiebreaker. That is the job.
The failure mode
Every market has brands whose spelling was clearly decided by arithmetic — the doubled letters, the stray Y, the vowel nobody expects. They pay for that spelling in every customer interaction forever. A numerologically ideal name that nobody can find is worse than an ordinary name that they can.
